Hestia & Metis
welcome you!

A blog about baking, cooking, crocheting… and so much more!

Hestia is the Greek gooddess of the hearth while Metis represents skill and crafting. Being the strong female figures they are, they guide me as I follow my passions, baking, cooking, and crocheting.

True to its name, this blog focuses on Hestia’s areas of expertise (baking & cooking) as well as Metis’ crafting genius (crocheting). Hence, in the section “Kitchen Exploits,” you can find all types of recipes ranging from baking your own bread to making yummy desserts to cooking a variety of healthy main dishes. In the section “Yarn Charms” I post crochet patterns and instructions for a variety of fun projects – anything from crocheting your own blankets and pillows to teddies to scarves and gloves.

Have a look around and feel free to leave me a comment. You can also connect with me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. No matter where and when, I would love to hear from you!

I update this site regularly – at least once a week, so please stop by often. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or ideas, I would love to hear them!

Carrot Soup with Apple & Ginger

Carrot soup is a dish that works the entire year – you can warm yourself with it in winter or eat it cold as a refreshing, light meal in summer. The ginger gives it a bit of a zing while the apple adds a sweet, fruity touch.

Cucumber Salad

This cucumber salad has many happy memories for me because my grandmother used to make it as a side dish when we came over for lunch. I still enjoy it because it has such a fresh taste to it – and because it brings back so many wonderful memories of family lunches at my grandmother’s house.

Bread – Walnuts and Olives

This bread is inspired by the Mediterranean cuisine. The walnuts and the olives give the bread an aromatic taste that you can already smell while it is baking in the oven.
